Back to Blog Home Where have the Good Fights been??? Posted on 02.03.10 by Pat Hanavan
With no doubt, the UFC's fight cards have been pretty weak recently. Since UFC 107 back in December (where of course my man BJ Penn ripped through Diego Sanchez much like I said was going to happen) there hasn't been any exciting cards. Of course this is all due to measures outside of the UFC's control. Will this continue though throughout the 2010 year?
Some examples of where the fights we wanted to see that just disappeared. Evans vs. Jackson. A great fight that a lot of people were waiting to see. Their little feud's on the Ultimate Fighter proved that the fight would be nothing short of epic and would leave the losing opponent more embarrassed than Forrest Griffin after the quick domination by Anderson Silva. Rampage left the sport to do a weak ass re-make of the A-Team and play Mr. T! For that I have no respect. You look at Mr. T as a hero and all I see of him is some World of Warcraft commercials where he is blabbing about a Knight F MoHawk.....wtf is a Knight F MoHawk!? And of course there was the Brock Lesnar health issues. With out even going into it, if you know me then you know I am not a fan of Brock. To his credit, he is a huge man and can move quicker than some lightweights but he is not indestructible. I also think the Lesnar vs. Carwin fight would have proved that. Fortunately now after the 30+ lbs Frank Mir put on to get up to Lesnars weight we have something to look forward to. The next great Heavyweight fight we get to see is Mir vs. Carwin. Frank Mir won a lot of respect back after his quick destruction of Cheick Kongo and if he can break Shane Carwin's undefeated record then I do not see him losing to Lesnar again. Thus making it Frank Mir 2 and Brock Lesnar 1. Koscheck is defiantly one of my favorite fighters. He is not only the closest fighter to Pittsburgh we have but he is also relentless in the cage and never turns down a fight. Unfortunately this was another recent upset for the fight cards. Koscheck was scheduled to fight Paulo Thiago but was forced off the card due to injury and replaced by Mike Swick. This fight would have been his chance to get back at Paulo Thiago for what he argues as a semi-controversal loss in UFC 95. Again I find myself so pumped when I heard Anderson Silva was coming back down to Middleweight to defend his title. Another huge let down. A Championship bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort was confirmed though it was contingent on Silva's successful recovery from elbow surgery. Subsequently, the fight was rescheduled due to Silva's continued slow healing from surgery. We will now have to wait until April to see the Silva vs. Belfort bout at UFC 112. This Saturday we have the Mark Coleman vs. Randy Couture fight. For the first time ever two UFC Hall of Famer's go toe-to-toe in the octagon. Don't get me wrong, this is an extremely exciting fight but it is not the Heavyweight fight we are dying to see! I know there will be some great fights that night but the undercard got destroyed and we are just left hoping that the two senior citizens beat the living piss out of each other. What else can we ask for!? In other news, Clay Guida steps out of UFC to referee UNC!? You can view the first ever UNC bout below.
